This time we had a bit of a departure from the normal hands-on meeting.

We decided to have a few things going on at once and members could move from one area to another as they wished.
There was also tea and coffee on the go for whenever anyone wanted a cup, thats to Dave Workman for that.
Also there was cake.

There were 6 different areas set up for the evening:

Richie Newboult brought along some items to demonstrate various finishes

Wood and tool exchange table

As members know, the finish on Richie’s work is always outstanding so he brought along a number of items finished in different ways and some of the products he used to achieve the finish. Richie was happy to share his techniques with fellow members.

We also had a tool and wood exchange table were these items could be swapped or bartered for.

The skew chisel

Howard Hughes kindly agreed to give instruction on the use of the skew, there were quite a number of members took advantage of a lesson in the dreaded skew.

Pen turning and sharpening on the Tormek

Texturing with the Robert Sorby and Simon Hope tools

Paul Williams gave a demonstration and instruction in pen turning and also using the Tormek wet grind system for sharpening

Paul Huyton gave some instruction in the use of the Robert Sorby and Simon Hope texturing tools.
There were quite a number of members who had a go themselves.

A busy evening at the hands-on

Who ate all the cake

Mark Woodwood gave a demonstration in the use of the Sorby Proedge sharpening system and quite a number of members had brought in tools to be sharpened. This was a popular instruction area.

And then the was the usual hand-on (the cake) meeting .

Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and the format.

The October challenge was ‘A favourite item’.

Unfortunately our Chairman went off at a gallop with handing out the results and scratch cards, so unfortunately there are no photographs of the members with their entries:
