The meeting on the 28th May was a hands-on meeting.

The meeting was a bit lighter than previous hands-on meetings, this was probably due to the exceptionally fine weather we had.
There was still a respectable attendance to watch Dave Harding demonstrating hand thread chasing and Sef Chambers was demonstrating, on request, anything at all.

Dave made thread chasing look easy, but having had a go I can say it requires practice and the right wood to achieve a thread.
We had a respectable entry for the monthly competition, which was a pair of fruits.
We also had a new item which was a Novice table.
There were quite a number of pieces placed on the table.

The idea is for those who don’t feel confident enough, yet, to enter into the open class.
They can place items on the novice table. The items aren’t judged as such but the more experienced turners (tutors etc.) will access the piece and offer advice on what was good and suggest anything that could have been done to improve the piece. This was all done anonymously.
Mike Wilson and Dave Harding accessed and commented on the items from the novice table.

I must say that in my opinion none of the items needed to be on the novice table as they were all worthy of being in the open class.
But we will continue with the novice table as it was quite instructive.
