The February meeting was a hands-on meeting:
The meeting was well attended by 25 CNWWA members and prospective members.
For this meeting we had 3 lathes up and running with a further 2 available if necessary.
This was due to the efforts of a number of club members, led by Sef Chambers who donated the use of his workshop.
Thank you to those who contributed their time to refurbish the clubs lathes and tools.
(Sef Chambers, Aubrey Lawson Steve Atthews and Paul Huyton).
Howard (the Skew) Hughes was doing a great job demonstrating that demon tool again.
Dave Harding was to do a thread chasing class but could not attend due to illness, Sef Chambers stepped in to cover this.
Thanks Howard and Sef for showing all the techniques required.
Paul Huyton did a short class on the use of the captive ring tools for Ann Kirkwood who at the end of the evening acheived one captive ring in pine, not easy to do.
We were also pleased to welcome back our new Chairman (Mike Wilson) after his knee operation, all be it using a stick at the moment, but he is expecting a full recovery.
Mike addressed the hall at the conclusion of the meeting and reminded everyone that as a club we are attending the Northern Woodturning Event in April.
Richie Newboult has done a fantastic job on the centre piece, which he brought to the meeting for all to see the progress.
He went through what he had done so far and requested assistance from other members to augment his efforts.
There won’t be any photos of the centre piece so as not to give anything away to the competition.
Mike and Sef then asked all members to contribute some of their pieces to display behind the centre piece to showcase the variety of turnings produced by our members.
Members were also requested to produce a number of items to act as ‘window dressing’ for the centre piece.
I’d like to say a big thank to the ‘clean-up crew’.
Having a number of lathes going at once produces quite a mess, so thank you all who helped clear up and put away.
A special thanks to Adrian Young and Paul Daley who not only set up the TV’s etc.,
but at the end of the evening did a great job of fitting all the refurbished lathes back into our storage space. no mean feat, as I witnessed.
