The June meeting was a demonstration by Keiran Reynolds.

Keiran started the demonstration with ‘how to turn a sphere’.
He described the size of blank to use and the ratios required to complete a sphere by dividing the cylinder into a number of sections, octagonal, and then cutting off the corners to achieve the rough sphere shape. He then showed how to finesse the shape to get the final sphere shape, using cup-chucks. He quickly achieved the desired sphere and passed it round to the audience.

Then the demonstration really began.

Keiran showed what could be created using a sphere and a doughnut chuck!
The variety is endless. He showed so many different ways these 2 items could be used to create a huge variety of outstanding items.
He did a show and tell session where he went through many items, he had brought with him and how he had achieved to end result.

Below are a selection of what can be achieved, to see all the items go to the gallery.

After the break, very welcome on the hottest day of the year, Keiran demonstrated a handled pot used by his ancestors to eat stews and vegetables. He did tell us the name given to this type of vessel but needless to say I have forgotten it. If anyone can remember it, let me know.

This was one of the best demonstrations we have had at the club since I joined and hopefully we can get Keiran back in the not to distant future so that the members unable to attend this month can have the chance to see him.

The monthly competition this month was a three-cornered bowl.

There were a number of entries for both Advanced and Open classes.

The novice table was again there but there were no items on it. Hopefully the feedback at the last meeting has convinced people to enter the open class. I will continue the novice for another couple of meetings to see if there is still a need.
There was also a table for items turned from the Chairmans challenge. There were quite a few interesting items turned. Mike asked that the items be brought in again next month and anyone who did not manage to turn this month to bring in their items.

The result of the competition was as follows:

Advanced Class:

Advanced 1st
Dave Harding

Advanced 2nd
Paul Huyton

Advanced 3rd
Sef Chambers

Open Class:

Open Class 1st Paul Daley

Open Class 2nd Howard Hughes

Open Class 3rd Paul Williams

Open Class 4th
David Southwick

Open Class 5th Adrian Young
